F10® technical information

Core actives

The F10® disinfectant and treatment range are based on F10®’s tested and proven core actives – a quaternary ammonium compound, Benzalkonium Chloride, and a biguanide compound, Polyhexamethylene Biguanide (PHMB). The antimicrobial mechanism of action of the F10® products is derived not only from that of each of the individual compounds, but also the novel synergistic action of the components.

Mode of action

F10® works by disrupting the micro-organism's cell membrane, causing it to rupture and effecting cell death. The cationic detergents are attracted to the anionic surfaces of micro-organisms, bind to the phospholipids in the cell membrane and denature the proteins impairing permeability

Testing

The F10 product range is not tested on animals.

Health and Hygiene (Pty) Ltd, the manufacturers of the F10 disinfectant and treatment range follows the ECHA guidelines regarding toxicity so as to ensure safety whilst avoiding testing on animals. Currently the ECHA (European Chemical Agency) - the regulating authority for all disinfectants put into the EU and UK markets - requires toxicity to be computed from the data provided by the approved raw material manufacturers. Health and Hygiene (Pty) Ltd, as a formulator, take this data and determine toxicity values by applying an ECHA computation so as to avoid animal testing.
