F10® Avian Disinfectant range

The range of F10® Avian Disinfectants are based on the core actives of the F10® range, and are proven effective against all known types of pathogen and specifically those bacteria, viruses, fungi and spores that affect birds. This includes circovirus (PBFD), avian influenza,  Aspergillus, French moult viruses, chlamydia, E. Coli and more. At appropriate concentrations (1:20) the F10®CL can be also be used for the environmental control of the protozoal oocysts of cryptosporidium, coccidia and giardia.

At working dilutions they are non-corrosive, non-tainting and non-irritating, and are also chlorine- and aldehyde-free, and are safe to be used around birds.

There are three products in the range, detailed below.

F10®CL Avian Disinfectant Concentrate

A concentrated disinfectant, which achieves a broad spectrum kill of micro-organisms which are potentially harmful to avian species.

It is an excellent product for achieving a high level of biosecurity and can be safely used in presence of birds when used at recommended concentrations.

Available in 1 litre bottles.

Use biocides safely. Always read the label and product information before use.

F10® Avian Disinfectant, Ready to Use

Ready-to-use, diluted F10®CL Avian Disinfectant, pre-diluted to a 1:50 concentration.

It offers the same broad spectrum kill of potentially harmful micro-organisms as the F10®CL, and with the same level of safety.

Available in a 1 litre bottle with a trigger spray or as a 1 litre refill.

Use biocides safely. Always read the label and product information before use.

F10®CLXD Avian Disinfectant Cleanser

The same broad spectrum of kill as F10®CL Avian Disinfectant but with added detergent to provide a ‘one-step’ product for light duty cleaning and disinfection in routine hygiene applications.

Available in 1 litre bottles.

Use biocides safely. Always read the label and product information before use.

Uses for the avian disinfectant range

CL Avian Disinfectant and Avian Disinfectant Ready to Use

  • Effective general disinfection of all hard surfaces (such as tables, floors and cages)
  • For animal housekeeping procedures (such as the cleaning of food and water bowls)
  • Can be used in the presence of your birds (at recommended dilution rates)
  • Fogging of entire rooms and hard to reach surfaces
  • Fogging of air spaces to eliminate air-borne micro-organisms

Note - The products should be used on surfaces which are already 'clean', but need disinfecting - i.e. remove any visible dirt from the surface before use. For a ‘one-step’ product for light duty cleaning, where a detergent is needed, use CLXD Avian Disinfectant Cleanser.

CLXD Avian Disinfectant Cleanser

  • Effective cleansing whilst reducing the microbial load.

  • Cleaning and disinfection of: floors; walls; tiles; cages; food and drink bowls; tables and basins

Recommended dilution rates for CL and CLXD

  • General disinfection at 1:100 (10ml in 1 litre)
  • High level disinfection against bacteria, fungi and most viruses (including coronavirus) at 1:50 (20ml to 1 litre)
  • For use against the most resistant viruses such as PBFD at 1:25 (40ml in 1 litre)
  • For the environmental control of the protozoal oocysts of cryptosporidium, coccidia and giardia use at 1:20 (50ml in 1 litre)*

These dilution rates mean that F10® is one of the most cost-effective disinfectant ranges on the market.

Note that the Ready to Use is diluted at 1:50 - therefore if a stronger solution (i.e. 1:25) is required it would be necessary to create a solution by diluting F10®CL.

* - the solution should be left to air dry to ensure maximum contact time, so the CL should be used, rather than the CLXD (as in most situations the latter should be rinsed off)

How to use the products

Using CL or Ready to Use

  • Remove any dirt from the surfaces so they are visibly clean (pre-clean to optimise the disinfection process)
  • Add the required amount of F10®CL to 1 litre of water - i.e. to create a dilution rate of 1:50 add 20ml* (a 20ml dosing pump can be bought separately) . If you have the Ready to Use product this can be used straight from the bottle*
  • Spray or wash the surfaces/object using the solution
  • Leave to air dry - no need to rinse or wipe off the F10 solution

* 1:50 is recommended for efficiency against most pathogens. If more resistant viruses are known to be present, use at 1:25 (40ml/litre). For the environmental control of the protozoal oocysts of cryptosporidium, coccidia and giardia use at 1:20 (50ml in 1 litre). The Ready to Use is pre-diluted at 1:50, so is not suitable when 1:25 or 1:20 is required. For general disinfection use at 1:100 (10ml/litre).

Using CLXD

  • Clear away any debris, and rinse with water
  • Add the required amount of F10®CLXD to 1 litre of water - i.e. to create a dilution rate of 1:50 add 20ml* (a 20ml dosing pump can be bought separately)
  • Spray or wash the surfaces/object using the solution
  • Due to the cleaning detergent contained in F10®CLXD, any food bowls or instruments that are to come in close contact with animals should be rinsed with clean water to ensure no soap residue is left
  • Once cleaned, spraying with a F10®CL solution, and then allowing to air dry, will ensure continued disinfection

* 1:50 is recommended for efficiency against most pathogens. If more resistant viruses are known to be present, use at 1:25 (40ml/litre). For general disinfection use at 1:100 (10ml/litre).

Which should I choose? CL or Ready to Use?

Whichever you are more comfortable using, the resulting disinfection performance will be the same. Ready to Use has the convenience of being pre-diluted, so can be used immediately and is at a recommended dilution. Buying the concentrated CL, and diluting it yourself, is more cost effective, and in some instances a different dilution rate may be required - the Ready to Use is the equivalent of F10CL diluted at 1:50 - so having the concentrate gives greater flexibility.

      What's the difference between F10®CLXD and F10®CL?

F10®CLXD is a disinfectant cleanser, and the added detergent means you can clean and disinfect in a single step. F10®CL is just a disinfectant.

F10®CLXD helps by removing the organic matter allowing the disinfectant to act against the pathogens with less interference. F10®CL works better on clean surfaces, but has the advantage that it can be left to air dry without leaving a soapy residue.

There are therefore situations where F10®CLXD or F10®CL may be more appropriate than the other for the task you are undertaking. More information is available in the adjacent video - if it is not displayed please enable cookies or watch it on YouTube.
